I was reached by the builder's of Wintergreen Townhomes on Bainbridge Island, WA. to create a mosaic map of the island. This would be 1 of 2 maps that will be installed at their new location to give residents a visual idea of the island's points-of-interest. It was fun to build the content pieces using fused glass, and it has that old map-y look.
I was asked by this Portland-area clinic to update their sign at their new building. I decided to use the existing 3 x 6 foot plexiglass sign, and surround it with colorful, burnt-wood pieces to make for an exciting entrance. I studied the Japanese technique of Shou-sugi-ban, which burns wood and leaves it dark. I sanded it back further and was able to add the wonderful wood-stain.
