Metropolitan Learning Center – 2012

Working at this school in urban NW Portland is always exciting. This session I had the pleasure of working with all 450 students and staff. It was crazy, lol, but that made it even better!

We started this mural project by having each student make 3 fused pieces of glass, most of which were laid into this 64 s.f. mosaic mural (fused pieces are located in  the outermost Greek Key pattern).  Each student got to choose their favorite creation, and that in turn was made into a fridge magnet for them to take home.

Then the kindergarteners did the rounded pieces of glass in the Yin-Yang circles, which were surrounded by the 3-4th graders work, which was surrounded by the 5-6 graders color gradations, which surrounded the high-schoolers lettering of positive character traits. Or something like that… Each grade and every student took part in this legacy project which will be at the school for decades to come.
