There is something tempting about creating trees in mosaic. Maybe it is the thought that each detail and every leaf can be shown with its own tile. But that’s not exactly possible on any reasonable scale.
So I have been busy experimenting with new materials for my trees, including mirror and soon, smalti (old-style Byzantine opaque glass).
Smalti gives interesting texture because it is thicker than normal stained glass, and small, broken mirror has an interesting optical illusion. Take a look at these versions and look for more in the future.
